Dr. Donald I. Cope, 90, of Butler, PA passed away peacefully at his home in Spring Hill, FL, on Monday, April 23, 2018.
He was born on January 28, 1927 in Berwick, PA to the late Orval S. Cope and Frances P. Cope.
Dr. Cope earned a bachelor degree from Penn State University and earned his doctorate from University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
On June 10, 1950, he and Margaret “Peggy” Cope were married at the Hiland Presbyterian Church. They shared a loving marriage for over 60 years.
Cope was a general practitioner for seven years, including two in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He retired from Butler Memorial Hospital after 27 years as a radiologist.
Dr. Cope is survived by his daughter, Anne Cope of Spring Hill, FL; one daughter-in-law, Karen Cope of Economy Borough, PA; one grandson, Donald Cope of Bellevue, PA; two granddaughters, Sara Cope of Wexford, PA and Susan Cope of Economy Borough, PA; three brothers, Roland Cope of New Cumberland, PA, Sheldon Cope of Morrisville, PA, and Richard Cope of Stillwater, PA; one sister, Charlotte Schaeffer of Berwick, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Cope; one son, James Cope; and one daughter, Nancy Cope.
A memorial service will be held for Dr. Cope on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church of America, 420 N. Main Street, Butler, PA 16001. Following the service will be a luncheon celebrating his life in the Fellowship Hall.
A private burial will be at the convenience of the family.
