The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has declared a drought watch for 16 counties including Butler.
The Commonwealth Drought Task Force made the determination, which also includes neighboring Armstrong County, Friday afternoon.
Residents are being asked to reduce individual water use by 5% to approximately 60 gallons per day based on the statewide average of 62 gallons per person per day.
Ways that the DEP recommends to reduce water use include running water only when necessary, only running dishwashers and washing machines with full loads, and be efficient when watering gardens.
