E. Jean Scott, 93, of Emlenton, passed away at her home Friday, February 22, 2019.
Born in Petrolia on February 5, 1926, Jean was the daughter of the late George and Margaret Ace Merchant.
Jean was of the Protestant faith. She was raised in Hornertown and attended school in Petrolia. She had been employed for several years in the cafeteria at the former Emlenton Elementary School. Jean enjoyed puzzles, bingo, arranging artificial flowers, and traveling to Florida each winter with her husband.
She was married in Emlenton on October 24, 1952 to Hugh R. “Dick” Scott. He preceded her in death on February 25, 2011.
Surviving is a son, Hugh Richard “Baretta” Scott of Emlenton; five grandchildren, Mary Ann Riley and her husband, Jim, Miranda Scott, Danielle Llamas and her husband, Tony, Aaron Evers, and Mark Hemphill; several great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Sandra Merchant of Butler; a brother-in-law, James “Jim” Fair of Chicora, as well as a number or nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Kusick, who was killed in action in Vietnam and a daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Hemphill, three brothers, Joseph, George, and John Merchant, three sisters, Shirley Craig, Martha Shoup, and Betty Fair, her step father, John Frineck.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, from Noon – 2:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. from the funeral home. Interment will follow in Crawford Memorial Cemetery, Emlenton. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.
