The gates still remained locked at the East Butler Baseball fields and members of their baseball association are weighing in.
Drew Mooney is a coach and member of the East Butler Baseball Association and he says that the East Butler Borough is trying to take over the operations of the field.
“Last October, we started getting some pushback from the borough about things we want to do and who was in charge of what,” Mooney said. “Then we found that the borough brought in a couple of teams to use a couple of fields, and push us around telling us what we had to do or how it was going to be.”
Although the borough owns the fields, Mooney contends there was a gentlemen’s agreement that the association runs the field. He says it has been that way since the land was donated.
However, he believes the borough wants to run the fields. Mooney says the association is willing to be flexible on using the fields.
“We’re flexible. Our contract might be based on other teams and leagues contracts, but in the end, we want to be able to run a ballpark,” Mooney said. “We need to run it so we can do our program right. The borough doesn’t seem to understand that; they want to run it.”
The borough terminated the agreement with the East Butler Baseball Association earlier this month, with the solicitor saying that the association has been “totally unreasonable” during the negotiations.
