The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-1 last night, handing the Pens their third consecutive defeat. The Oilers were leading the game 3-0 when they added two goals in 20 seconds late in the second period. Evgeni Malkin scored the lone Penguins goal. The Pens were 0-for-2 on the power play last night and went 2-for-15 on the road trip.
After going 1-3 on their four-game road trip, they return home to host Columbus Tuesday and Washington Thursday. The Pens squandered a two-goal lead to lose 4-3 to Calgary Saturday night.
For the season, the Penguins have had five losing streaks of three games or more. Three of the streaks have come in the last six weeks.
The Pens are nine points behind Philadelphia for third place in the Metropolitan Division and 10 points out of a Wild Card playoff spot. The NHL trade deadline is this Friday at 3pm.
