Edmund Kinter, 94, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 13, 1925 in Verona, Pennsylvania to the late Lester Kinter and the late Florence Schaney Kinter.
Edmund grew up and got his early training at Barneys Place in Center Township. He attended a one room school and Butler High School where he was the first member of the class of 1945 to enlist during World War 11 with the Merchant Marines on August 1 and serving in all Theaters through the War. Returning to civilian life he work with L&W Restaurants as manger in Pittsburgh and Butler.
During the Korean War he served with the 28th Division as a Staff Sargent until 1952. He joined the G.C. Murphy where he worked for 37 years, retiring on 1989 as Director of Food Service. During his tenure with Murphy’s he served as a restaurant manger in Harrisburg, PA, Montgomery and Beckley West Virginia, Forth Worth Texas and Fort Wayne Indiana, then District Manager prior to heading up the Restaurant Division.
Edmund was a member of Western Pennsylvania Bee Keepers Association and the Portersville Golf Association serving as Secretary.. He loved woodworking, gardening, golfing and bee keeping. Edmund was a member of Portersville Presbyterian Church where he also served as Deacon.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ward Kinter; two sons, Dean (Christine) Kinter of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Dwight (Jenny) Kinter of Newport News, VA; one daughter, Della (Richard) Serafine of Portersville, PA; three step-daughters, Lisa Osterling of Portersville, PA Carol (Allen) Albright of Butler, PA; and Kathleen Matteson of New York, a daughter in law Loretta Ward and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jennie Stewart Kinter, one grandchild Anthony David Serafine; two brothers, Kenneth Craig Kinter and Bill Neil Kinter, one sister, Betty Kinter Theis and one step-son Jamie Ward.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at 11:00 am at Portersville Presbyterian Church,PA with Pastor Dana Opp officiating.
Private burial will take place in the Portersville Cemetery.
