Edward C. “Ed” Schrecongost, 87, of Chicora, passed away early Tuesday morning, February 4, 2025 at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Edward was born in Karns City on November 23, 1937. He was the son of the late Carl A. and Evalyn A. Stroup Schrecongost.
He was a 1956 graduate of Fairview Twp. Karns City High School and had been employed as a shipping and loading supervisor for more than 36 years at Koppers/Indspec in Petrolia. He was a longtime member of the Karns City United Methodist Church, a life member of the Chicora Fire Dept., and a member of the Butler County Law Enforcement Association. Ed enjoyed hunting, camping in Elk County, and golfing. Ed most especially looked forward to attending his grandsons’ sporting events. He served in the PA Army National Guard.
Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Gail A. Davis Schrecongost, whom he married at the Karns City United Methodist Church on October 26, 1957. Also surviving is a son, Brian C. Schrecongost and his wife, Carol, of Chicora and a daughter, Sherry L. O’Donnell and her husband, Stephen, of Butler. Ed was affectionately “Pa” to his three grandsons, Dallas O’Donnell and his wife, Amy, of Chicora, Dylan O’Donnell of Atlanta, GA, and Dustin Christie and his wife, Felicia, of Las Vegas, NV; a great grandson, Riley S. O’Donnell, whom Ed adored, and he was looking forward to the birth of a great granddaughter soon. Also surviving is a sister, Kathy Groux of Houston, TX; a sister-in-law, Myrna Schrecongost of Fairview, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bruce A. Schrecongost who passed away May 20, 1977; a brother, Donald V. Schrecongost, and a brother-in-law, Donald Groux.

Family and close friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday. A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Beverly Roscoe, pastor of the Karns City United Methodist Church and The Rev. Jim Lewis, former church pastor, officiating. Interment will be beside his son at Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.
