Elizabeth C. “Betty” Shoup, 89, of Foxburg Road, Parker, Allegheny Township, Butler County, a retired A-C Valley High School English teacher, passed away early Sunday morning, April 23, 2023 at the Clarion Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Elizabeth was born on October 17, 1933 in Parker. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Delphine Gates Seybert. Betty was a 1951 graduate of Parker High School, and graduated with a B.S. in Education from Clarion State College in 1955. Betty was certified in both English and Biology; she taught seventh and eighth grade English at Allegheny Clarion Valley High School for many years, where she was well liked and highly respected among the district’s students, staff and parents. Mrs. Shoup also served as the supervisor of the Quadco yearbook student staff. Mrs. Shoup retired in 1992.
She was a longtime active member of the Foxburg United Methodist Church, and had served the church on various committees. She enjoyed reading, most especially murder mysteries, quilting, embroidery, playing cards, and puzzles. Betty and her husband, Bob, enjoyed gathering with friends for lunch and dinner out.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Robert M. “Bob” Shoup. The couple was married at the Parker United Methodist Church on June 27, 1958. In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by two daughters, Karen Shoup of Wrightsville, and Julie A. Healey and her husband, Scott, of Calera, AL; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dean and Sonja Shoup of St. Petersburg, and Thomas and Gerri Shoup, of Valencia, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Leslie W. Shoup, and a sister, Margaret Ann Page and brother-in-law, Robert Page.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 26th at the Foxburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Gene Lenk, church pastor, and former pastor and family friend, Rev. Dan Myers, co-officiating. Interment will be at Allegheny Cemetery, Allegheny Township, Butler County.
