The country’s Energy Secretary was in Butler County yesterday to talk about the reversal of a proposal that will keep the Cleveland Cliffs Butler Works plant open.
Secretary Jennifer Granholm toured the plant and discussed new energy standards and $75 million in federal grant funding that will go to the Butler Works plant. She says these new standards will result in $14 billion in savings, along with reducing 85 million metric tons of CO2.
“This is what the process is meant to come out to. You put out a proposal, you get input, you talk to folks on the ground and work it through,” Granholm said. “You then achieve a win-win on jobs and carbon emissions.”
Granholm also said that this investment into the Cleveland Cliffs is just the beginning for the Biden Administration. Over $6 billion in grants have already been given out during the Biden Administration with more intended to go out in the future.
