After receiving most of their public safety coverage from State Police, Evans City has a new plan that will combine both local and state levels for public safety.
They have created a new position, director of public safety, which will be overseen by Joe McCombs.
McCombs will overlook police services in the area. This will include hiring of part time officers. Anytime that this force cannot tend to a situation, state police will step in to assist. For McCombs this plan provides a lot of future options for Evans City as they decide how they want to continue forward.
“In the next year or two, this will be here until Evans City has a better understanding of where they’re at fiscally, and what kind of money they want to contract out, merge or try to work some things out, or go strictly with the state police,” McCombs said. “I think this is a fair time to see if this is doable and workable.”
There will be no full time Evans City Officers outside of the McComb and one other officer currently.
