The ongoing project to build a sewer system in Marion Township was addressed this past week at the Butler County public meeting.
The Department of Environmental Protection has requested that the municipality install a sewer system—calling the old one outdated and an environmental hazard.
However, most of the 95 homes in that area fall under the category of low to moderate income, which is causing concerns over funding.
Currently, the average monthly sewer bill is $15. But, under state guidelines that figure would jump to $95 per month. There’s also concern about tap-in fees and purchasing grinder pumps.
County officials acknowledged the challenges but say they are determined to get this project done by next year.
