A local organization will receive national exposure on a television broadcast next week.
In recognition of National Adoption Month, Family Pathways has been invited to participate in a conversation about older youth adoptions on the nationally-syndicated NBC TODAY Show to be aired on Monday.
Founder and Executive Director of Family Pathways, Dr. Elan Welter Lewis talks about how this opportunity came about.
“They have recognized us as a leader in permanency services, and have sought us out on occasions to talk about the holiday,” Lewis said. “They asked if we had an articulate youth, and of course we have wonderful children in our care, so we were happy to put that together.”
Older children in the foster system are between the ages of 13 and 21 and there are many local young people waiting for their forever family. One of those kids by the name of Mikel was picked to be on the show.
“Hoda [Kotb] from the TODAY Show interviewed him to try and prep him for the questions, but he required very little prep,” Lewis said. “He was basically like ‘I got this’ so it was nice.
Family Pathways is a non-profit organization located in Butler at Monarch Place on Brugh Avenue.
