Cabinet members of the Wolf Administration are pushing farmers markets across the state to accept more payments through the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program.
The state’s Department of Human Services has received a grant that would provide farmers markets with free electronic benefit equipment so they can accept the SNAP payments.
“Farmers and retailers have an opportunity for farmers markets to become authorized SNAP retailers, and offer a new avenue for Pennsylvanians who rely on SNAP to spend their benefits and fresh, nutritious food,” Human Services Secretary Teresa Miller said.
Miller also notes that this would allow farmers markets to expand their customer base.
