Father Marinaro Park in the City of Butler will not be hosting Penn State women’s softball games this year.
Following an inspection of the field by members of the City of Butler Parks, Recreation Grounds, and Facilities Authority, the decision was made that the field did not meet collegiate softball standards.
Of particular concern were ankle-deep ruts in the outfield caused by someone driving a vehicle on the field. The field would need to be rolled several times and fill-in dirt added where needed. The vandalism would not be able to be repaired by the time the field would be used.
The softball games are still planned to be played in the Butler area with an agreement approved Monday night for the team to use the field at Center Township Elementary for 10 games over five days. 18 baseball games will be played at Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park.
