The FBI is still working to learn the motive behind the shooting.
20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park was confirmed as the shooter according to the FBI.
But, FBI Special Agent Kevin Rojek says the motive is in question.
“We do not currently have an identified motive, but our investigators are working tirelessly to identify what the motive was,” Rojek said.
Crooks was a 2022 graduate of Bethel Park High School. According to classmates, he was rejected from the school’s rifle team. They also described him as a “loner” who was bullied by others. The FBI is actively searching his online presence and are trying to gain access to his phone.
The shooter gained access to a roof on a building at AGR International, which is located at the corner of Whitestown Road and Evans City Road. He fired shots at former President Trump, and then was quickly taken down by Secret Service snipers who were positioned on one of the red barns at the Farm Show Grounds.
Crooks used an AR-15 style weapon, that was reportedly purchased by his father.
