The FBI is warning holiday shoppers to be aware of scammers this time of year.
Officials say the two-most prevalent scams are non-delivery and non-payment crimes. In the first, a buyer purchases an item online but it never arrives. The other is when an item is shipped to a scammer, who then never pays for it.
According to the FBI, more than 600 victims in Western PA lost an estimated $848,000 in holiday-related scams. This year alone, residents have lost close to $1 million to illegal schemes.
The FBI says to do your homework when you’re shopping, and if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
