Federal officials say they’ve dismantled a drug ring in Butler County after announcing the indictment of nine people yesterday.
The 27-count indictment charges the group with conspiring to distribute at least 40 grams fentanyl, over 100 grams of heroin and cocaine from January 2017 through this June.
The Department of Justice says that those who were arrested have lived in Butler, Lyndora, Philadelphia, and New Kensington.
Butler County District Attorney Rich Goldinger was part of the law enforcement collaboration that was able to secure the arrests.
“These guys, we call them the Overton crew, were high level dealers. They were one of the major, if not the most major, supplier of heroin, fentanyl and cocaine into the Butler community,” Goldinger said. “This was a huge bust for us. I’m not saying that our problem is going to go away now, but it certainly puts a dent into the heroin and fentanyl coming into the Butler community.”
Sentencing can range from five to 40 years in jail and a fine of up to $5 million.
