The Federal Emergency Management Agency is encouraging residents to be aware of the dangers of earthquakes.
The annual Great ShakeOut earthquake drill is planned for Thursday across the country since earthquakes can happen anywhere at any time.
In an effort to stay prepared, FEMA representatives recommend taking simple but critical safety steps such as drop where you are, cover head and neck with one arm and hand while crawling for shelter under a table or desk, and hold on to the shelter until the shaking stops.
Participation in the Great ShakeOut is free and open to any individual, school, business, government agency, or organization who registers at the website shakeout.org.
