Residents who had to pay for funeral expenses as a result of a death caused by COVID-19 may be eligible for federal assistance.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has set up a COVID-19 Funeral Assistance Program to help with expenses like transfer of remains, burial plot, headstone, and clergy services.
The death certificate must attribute the death to COVID-19. Maximum funding available is $9,000 per funeral and $35,000 per application.
More information about this program is available through FEMA’s website or by calling FEMA’s Funeral Assistance Helpline (1-844-684-6333) weekdays between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
