A hard-fought race between two Republican candidates for Butler County prothonotary ended with Kelly Ferrari defeating Paula Painter.
Ferrari won by more than 2,500 votes, according to unofficial election results. She will appear as the Republican candidate in the November election.
On the Democratic side, Daniel Smith was the only candidate running on Tuesday and will face Ferrari in the fall.
Butler County’s current prothonotary Glenna Walters is retiring after 36 years. The prothonotary’s office keeps records for civil county court cases.
