The financial losses continue to pile up for the recently merged Independence Health System.
According to recent financial reports for the last quarter, the combination of Butler Health System and Excela Health operated at a $23 million loss from July to September this year.
Hospital officials say the losses are in part due to pandemic after-effects, reimbursement issues with Medicare and Medicaid, and an aging population.
The health system has cut positions over the last year in hopes of keeping losses at bay.
During the last fiscal year, Independence Health System reported a loss of nearly $80 million.
