A child died in a house fire Thursday afternoon in the City of Butler.
The fire broke out just before noon at a home on Knox Avenue on the city’s west end. Crews from Butler City quickly arrived to find the two story home engulfed in flames, and learned of a young child entrapped in the second floor of the home.
Two year old Tristan Oesterling was unable to escape the flames.
Switala also said that two other children were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for their injuries—one child was then flown to a Pittsburgh trauma center. Switala also said an adult man was treated at BMH for smoke inhalation. The fire was brought under control at about 1:15 p.m.
Switala said the home is a total loss and a neighboring home also was damaged.
Hansen Avenue was closed in between New Castle Road and Fairground Hill while crews were on the scene.
Cindy Parker who operates the nonprofit Walk in Faith Outreach, is collecting clothing and housewares for the family. A gofundme.com account has also been set up for the Oesterlings.
