Multiple fire departments were called out to battle a fire that destroyed a Clay Township garage Thursday afternoon.
The call came into the Butler County 911 Center shortly before 1 p.m. for a garage on fire in the 100 block of Kelly Road.
West Sunbury Chief Justin O’Hara explains what crews found arriving on the scene. “The building was fully involved so crews from Unionville took their hand lines and made the attack,” O’Hara said.
“Upon our arrival we assisted with attacks on the fire. Once we got the fire knocked down, we switched to foam operations. We placed a foam blanket over the fire to try and combat rekindle.”
West Sunbury was joined by Unionville, Prospect, Slippery Rock, North Washington, Marion Township, Eau Claire, Harrisville, and Oneida Valley at this incident.
No one was injured in the fire, but O’Hara says it reinforces the need for working fire extinguishers.
“The homeowner attempted to stifle the original start of the fire with a fire extinguisher, however it did fail him which is good reason to check fire extinguisher at home,” O’Hara said. “It’s a good idea to check fire extinguishers at home and if you have any questions contact your local fire department and have them check it.”
The cause of the fire is accidental. Crews were able to clear the scene after about an hour and a half.
