This week is Fire Prevention Week.
This annual observance is held nationwide to remind residents of the dangers of house fires and how easily they can occur.
The National Fire Protection Association has announced that this year’s theme is “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!” This focuses on encouraging people to develop and practice a home fire escape plan.
A home escape plan includes working smoke alarms on every level of the home, in every bedroom and near all sleeping areas. It also includes two ways out of every room, usually a door and window, with a clear path to a designated outside meeting place a safe distance away.
Home escape plans should be practiced twice a year by all members of the household.
