Two firefighters suffered minor injuries during an apartment fire yesterday in the City of Butler.
It broke out just before 3 p.m. at an apartment unit at the corner of South McKean Street and Center Avenue.
Butler City Fire Chief Chris Switala said the fire started due to an electrical problem in one apartment on the top floor, and then spread to other units.
“Two of the five units sustained significant damage. The other three units just had minor smoke odor,” Switala said.
Switala said all of the residents escaped the apartment safely, however several snakes and other pets died in the unit where the fire started.
Two firefighters were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital to be treated for a back and knee injury.
The Red Cross is assisting those who’s apartments were damaged.
