Pennsylvania agriculture officials say the state has its first confirmed case of the avian flu in a domestic bird.
It was found in a flock of chickens at a Lancaster County poultry farm. Officials say the state and federal task force is initiating a response plan according to Russell Redding, Pennsylvania secretary of agriculture.
“We are placing a quarantine on the farm and all poultry facilities within a 10 kilometer radius of the infected flock in order to protect Pennsylvania’s $7.1 billion poultry industry,” Redding said.
Redding again also reminded residents that there is currently no public health concern, but rather this is an agricultural issue.
