Three people who helped to rescue a man from a vehicle crash and fire that happened last month have been recognized by the Butler Township Commissioners.
Butler Township Police officers Rachel Dovidio and William Dobson along with Director of Public Safety Chief Scott Frederick received a plaque for their actions November 30th on Fairground Hill Road.
36-year-old Ryan Davidson of Butler was traveling east around 1 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle due to a medical emergency. Frederick arrived on the burning vehicle and began the rescue while Dovidio and Dobson helped pull Davidson from the vehicle.
Davidson was flown to a Pittsburgh trauma center where he was in a coma for two weeks before he was able to heal enough to be discharged in time to attend Monday’s ceremony.
“I just really want to say thank you, especially to Chief Frederick. I watched the video a few times, and he was at my car numerous times getting me out of it,” Davidson said. “It’s an emotional for me to be here today. I’m just really proud to be a Butler Township resident. This is why I’ve lived here for most of life because of the kind of people we have living here. So I just want to say thank you to everybody.”
All three first-responders received PA Senate certificates of recognition from Senator Scott Hutchinson, PA House certificates from Representative Marci Mustello, Butler County official citations from Commissioner Leslie Osche, and challenge coins from representatives of Life Flight and the West Penn Hospital burn center.
