Fireworks are known as one of the most dangerous activities during this holiday weekend. But energy officials are reminding residents to be careful about another issue that could arise.
West Penn Power says to be careful when using foil balloons. So far this year, foil balloons have already caused 10 power outages. Their metallic coating conducts electricity when they drift into power lines or electrical equipment.
Officials say to make sure the balloons are tied down during parties and picnics. They also say to simply pop the balloon or let the air out after the party is done.
