With the pandemic now approaching a year, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is detailing how much the need for food increased since last March.
According to a food bank spokesperson, the southwestern PA region saw 42 percent increase in food insecurity rates from year-to-year.
Overall, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank distributed more than 37 million meals in the region from March through December.
Food bank officials also say that they expect the need for food to still remain high over the next 12 to 18 months.
