Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak will interview for the Arizona Cardinals head coaching position. Former offensive coordinator Bruce Arians retired after the regular season ended Sunday.
Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley was injured in a fall New Year’s Eve. Pittsburgh police were investigating the incident at the Tequila Cowboy restaurant and bar on North Shore Drive near Heinz Field.
Finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame have been announced. Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Alan Faneca is a finalist for the third year in a row. Faneca played for the Steelers from 1998 to 2007. He also played for the New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals. Aliquippa native Ty Law, who played cornerback for four NFL teams, was among the 15 finalists. (Isaac Bruce, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Edgerrin James, John Lynch, Brian Urlacher and Ray Lewis are some other finalists). The final vote will be taken Super Bowl weekend.
Former Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward did not make the final list.
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis was given a two-year contract extension Tuesday.
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer announced his retirement from football Tuesday. He played 15 seasons in the NFL, and was named to the Pro Bowl three times.
The Pitt football team will be looking for a new defensive coordinator. Josh Conklin has been hired as the new head coach for the Wofford football program. Conklin came to Pitt when head coach Pat Narduzzi took over the Panthers program.
The University of Arizona has fired head football coach Rich Rodriquez. He went 45-35 over five seasons with the Wildcats, and his teams made bowl games all five years. Rodriguez was a former head coach at West Virginia and Michigan.
