A former Butler High School student accused of phoning in a threat earlier this month has been charged.
Butler Township Police allege the 16-year-old boy from Centre County called a township business on April 4 and said a friend of his was going to “shoot up” the school the next day.
Through an investigation, police learned the “friend” that the 16-year-old named was not involved and had no knowledge of the situation.
“A juvenile’s name was provided, but police determined said juvenile was not involved in making the threat,” according to a Butler Township Police Chief John Hays.
Police concluded there was no credible threat and school started on time the next morning.
The juvenile charged with making the threat has not been identified by authorities. Also unclear is his motive for doing it.
