A former Moraine State Park ranger is taking over as the next manager of a park in neighboring Mercer County.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has appointed Mark Scarpitti as the next manager of Maurice K. Goddard State Park.
Scarpitti is a native of Edinboro and graduated from Penn State. After beginning his career at Moraine, the 37-year-old Scarpitti served as a manager trainee and as assistant manager at Hickory Run State Park in Carbon County.
Maurice K. Goddard State Park is nearly 3,000 acres including the over 1,500 acre Lake Wilhelm as well as trails, wetlands, oil fields, and mature forests that provide a habitat for a wide variety of wildlife. The park is named after the former secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Forests and Waters who oversaw the creation of more than 40 state parks.
