Former Pitt head football coach Johnny Majors has died at the age of 85. Majors was a college coach for 39 years – including two stints with the Panthers. Majors also coached at Iowa State and Tennessee – but is credited with saving the Pitt program in the 1970’s. He arrived in 1973 and led Pitt to a national championship in 1976. He returned as head coach in 1993.
Majors was inducted into the Pitt Hall of Fame last year.
