Property owners are moving forward with plans to repurpose an old Butler Township Volunteer Fire Company building for use as an entirely indoor baseball training facility.
Tuesday night the Butler Township Planning Commission recommended approving a land development plan from Pride Performance Training for the property on Evans Road near Bon Aire Plaza.
The Butler Township Zoning Hearing Board granted a special exception for this use in April as the new owners were about to close on the property. The building was previously owned by Mercer Road VFC but has been vacant since 2019.
Although the building is currently 40 feet long, the owners would like to add another 800 square feet which would allow for two trainers to each instruct one student in hitting or pitching.
The facility would be open 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays as well as earlier on weekends. This plan will next go before the Butler Township Commissioners for consideration and final approval later this month.
