Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back and Hall of Famer Franco Harris has died at the age of 72.
The news was first reported by WTAE and confirmed by other multiple sources in the Pittsburgh. His death comes just days before the Steelers and the NFL were to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception, when Harris caught a deflected pass and scored a touchdown to defeat the Oakland Raiders in a 1972 playoff game.
Harris played for Penn State in his college career, and then would play for the Steelers from 1972 to 1983.
Harris was also slated to become just the third player in Steelers franchise history to have his number retired. Nobody has worn 32 since Harris left Pittsburgh.
No cause of death has been released at the moment.
