Fred Robert Summerville, 80, of Butler, passed away at his home on Thursday, December 7, 2023.
Born May 6, 1943, in Elfinwild, PA, he was the son of the late Irvin D. and the late Isabella M. (Hieber) Summerville.
Fred was a graduate of Butler High School and went on to honorably serve his country in the United States Navy. He spent 32 years working with the B&O / CSX Railroad until his retirement. Fred was very active in his community, and was a member of the VFW Post 249, South Butler VFD, American Legion Post 778, USS Compton Association, the Butler County Law Enforcement Officers Association, Summit Twp. Sportsman Club, Kellettville Sportsman Club, Happy Hunters, Larry George / Monroe Hotel Golf League and Smart TD Alumni. He also enjoyed spending his time archery hunting, rifle hunting, golfing and watching the Steelers. More than anything, Fred enjoyed spending time at camp with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kathleen (Dwyer) Summerville, whom he married November 3, 1963, his four children; Carol (Tom) Leith of Butler, Lorie (Larry) Bartley of East Butler, Fred R. Summerville, Jr. of Butler, and Carrie (Bill) Heidenreich of Chicora, 11 grandchildren; Nathan (Kristina) Bartley, Sarah (Justin) Berberich, Matthew (Shelby) Bartley, Emily Leith (Joel Broad), Thomas Leith, Jr., Melissa Bartley (Adam Harbison), Anna Heidenreich, Lora Heidenreich, Daniel Heidenreich, Matthew Summerville, and Michael Summerville, his great grandchildren; Kyle Leith, Julia Dupe, Luke Reott, Zivah Bartley, Quinn Bartley, Danica Bartley, Cameran Bartley, Jaissa Bartley, Cole Bartley, plus two more on the way; his brother; Dean (Jessica) Summerville of West Sunbury; his sister; Evelyn Weiland of Butler, his sisters in law; LouAnn Summerville of Butler and Mary Kay Summerville of Chicora and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by 2 brothers; David and Irvin “Phil” Summerville, his sister; Arlene Betro, and his grandson, Joshua Bartley.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, from 1-3 and 5-7 at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 E. North St., Butler, PA 16001.
A funeral service along with full military honors will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 E. North St., Butler, PA 16001.
