Fred W. Holmes, Jr., of Butler, passed away on his 95th birthday, April 17, 2024, under the care of Chicora Medical Center.
Born April 17, 1929, in Midway, PA, he was the son of the late Fred W. Holmes, Sr. and the late Grace (Blair) Holmes.
Fred was a graduate of Hickory High School, and went on to work as a meat cutter for various firms throughout Western PA. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America throughout his life. Fred liked to spend time outdoors, especially hunting and camping. He also enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles. More than anything, Fred will be remembered as a hard working family man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine T. (Kler) Holmes, whom he married on November 23, 1950, his daughter, Deborah (John) Neigh of Butler, his son, Rodney (Sandra) Holmes of Washington Co., 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and his step brother, Gordon Holmes.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
A blessing service for Fred will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 E. North St., Butler, PA 16001, with Fr. Matthew McClain of St. Clare of Assisi, St. Wendelin Church officiating. Visitation will immediately follow the blessing service until 3:00 PM.
He will be laid to rest privately in St. Wendelin Cemetery.
