A Freeport councilman has stepped down after he allegedly misused nearly $100,000 in funds from Freeport EMS.
Justin DeAngelis resigned from council Monday night according to our news partners at WPXI.
He had served as the treasurer for Freeport EMS when its executive director discovered that more than $97,000 in their funds had been misappropriated. The investigation found that only DeAngelis had access to the money.
According to a letter from the EMS solicitor, no charges were filed because DeAngelis had agreed to pay all the money back to the service.
It also noted that at no point had money been missing from the Borough of Freeport or the Freeport Volunteer Fire Department.
