The Ellen O’Brien Gaiser Center had a grand opening yesterday for a recovery home serving women and children of Butler County.
Officials say it took over a year to get the home in the 600 block of East Brady Street ready. It can house up to 12 women and their children.
The idea came about after many recovery houses in Butler County closed due to a new law.
Some women will be able to stay at the house free of rent through grants and government aid as they continue their recovery.
Joe Mahoney is the Executive Director of the Ellen O’Brien Center and sees the home as a safe place for mothers and their children as they finish their recovery journey.
“The last step on the mother’s recovery journey. This is her last step to full independent living, job searching, and they’re able to do all of that in this beautiful home,” Mahoney said. “It’s a safe space, and their kids can be with them while they do it.”
The Ellen O’Brien Center is waiting for the state to approve their license which officials believe it will only be a matter of a few weeks before women begin moving in.
