A buck harvested in nearby Westmoreland County has broken the state record for a rack in archery season.
According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, a 13-point whitetail harvested by Ron Shaulis of West Newton had the highest score of any ever certified in the Typical Archery category.
Shaulis credits the amount of time he spent scouting and monitoring trail cameras as being important factors in his ability to achieve this recognition.
The previous state record in this category was from a buck harvested in Allegheny County in 2004.
