Pennsylvania farmers and other landowners could soon have more time to address problems posed by Canada geese.
The state Board of Game Commissioners recently approved a measure that would align state rules about geese with federal guidelines.
That means that landowners properly registered with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service would be allowed to destroy Canada goose nests and eggs on their properties year-round. Also, properly permitted agricultural producers can kill small numbers of adult geese causing crop damage from April through August. Little or no impact on the overall goose population is anticipated.
This measure will need to receive final approval through a second vote at a future meeting.
