As the deer hunting season came to an end months ago, the Pennsylvania Game Commission is updating their surveillance of chronic wasting disease in deer.
The commission says their best data collection comes during the deer harvest, and this year was no different.
Going back to last July, the Game Commission collected nearly 11,000 CWD samples from deer and found 440 deer tested positive. That’s up just 14 from last year.
A majority of these deer were found in southcentral Pennsylvania. Although, a deer with CWD was found for the first time in Armstrong County.
CWD is a deadly neurological disease in deer.
