Gary G. Smith, 73, of Maple Drive, Karns City, went to be with the Lord Thursday evening, December 28, 2017 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.
Gary was born in Jeanette on May 18, 1944. He was the son of the late Gerald J. and Velma J. Baughman Smith.
He was a 1962 graduate of Hempfield Area Senior High School. Gary was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora and a member of the NRA. He was a car enthusiast and a Corvette owner. He enjoyed exercising at the YMCA. Gary was a proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather and treasured time spent with his family.
Mr. Smith retired following 28 years of service with Yourga Trucking.
He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Sandra Poole Smith, whom he married in Greensburg on March 2, 1963. Also surviving are four children, Terri L. Geary and her husband, Rick, of Latrobe, Gary G. Smith and his wife, Michelle, of Martinez, GA, Jeffrey A. Smith and his wife, Carisa, of Petrolia, and Todd G. Smith and his wife, Tricia, of Grove City; seventeen grandchildren, Adam, Seth, Katie, Joey, Victoria, and Jason Geary, Kurtis, Dylan, Garrett Smith, Justin, Sydney, and Kendyl Smith, Derrick, Ethan, Owen, Cassie, and Alex Smith; four great grandchildren, Destiny, Madison, Brayden, and Enslee Mae; three sisters, Barbara Janice and her husband, Ralph, of Greensburg, Linda Imel and her husband, Elwood “Woody”, of Normalville, and Sindy Wodham and her husband, Tracy, of Walworth, NY, as well as a number of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. David Perry, pastor of the Petrolia Evangelical Presbyterian Church, officiating.
