The Butler Township commissioners are considering a request from a local utility company to place some equipment on a piece of park land.
A representative from Peoples Natural Gas addressed the commissioners during a meeting on Monday about an easement for a gas regulator station on the southwest corner of Preston Park.
Officials say the 20-by-20 foot area off South Eberhart Road would be a couple feet high with fencing and landscaping to blend in as much as possible with the rest of the park. The station is needed because an older station nearby currently servicing the area is not in a good location, officials said.
If given final approval by commissioners, construction could take place in the next six to nine months and would include digging up the road in that area. The representative said Peoples would definitely consider making an undetermined financial gift to projects at the park.
