Gas prices in western Pennsylvania continued to plummet both regionally and locally over the last week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve in Butler, as of Monday, is $2.37 per gallon which is 12 cents cheaper compared to last week.
Prices dropped by 13 cents across western Pennsylvania as a whole this week, averaging $2.35 per gallon. The cheapest gas in the area can be found in New Castle at $2.00 per gallon, while the most expensive is $2.46 in Beaver.
The average national gas price declined to $2.12 which is 50 cents less than this date last year. Crude oil prices hit the lowest since 2002 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a price war between Saudi Arabia and Russia. Prices are expected to continue to drop as demand decreases as a result of social distancing.
