Gas prices have dropped slightly locally but inched up across western Pennsylvania as a whole this week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, declined by a penny over the past week to reach $4.00 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole increased by two cents during that same time to arrive at $4.01. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in Brookville at $3.84, while the most expensive is $4.13 in Altoona.
The average national gas price rose by four cents over the past week to reach $3.80 which is nine cents less than a month ago but 38 cents more than a year ago. Although demand for gas dropped, the cost of oil jumped as a result of concerns about global oil production cuts as well as a recent drop in the value of the dollar.
