Officials with AAA believe although gas prices are high, a strong economy will prevent drivers from cancelling their summer road trips.
“Gasoline prices are definitely more expensive than they were at this time last year, but there is a silver lining for anyone planning a trip,” AAA East Central’s Jim Garrity said. “That extra cost at the pump may only amount to an extra $10-$20, which for most people isn’t enough for them to actually cancel their trip.”
Garrity says many people will find that money somewhere else in their budget, maybe by making one less stop at a restaurant or by making changes in their daily habits to help cut down on fuel costs by car-pooling or combing errands when out shopping.
Prices in Butler this week are averaging $3.11 per gallon, according to AAA’s weekly fuel survey. That’s up two cents from last week.
AAA says 14 states have prices that are averaging $3 per gallon or more. Pennsylvania remains on the list of the ten most expensive markets nationwide.
