Gas prices have shot up both locally as well as across the western Pennsylvania region as a whole over the past week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of yesterday, jumped to $3.67 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole increased by 17 cents to reach $3.63. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in Clarion at $3.48, while the most expensive is in Mercer, Oil City, and Warren at $3.70.
The average national gas price increased by nine cents over the past week to $3.25, mostly as a result of refinery maintenance and a switch to summer-blend gasoline. This is 15 cents more than a month ago but 34 cents less than this time last year. Demand for gas decreased but the price of a barrel of crude oil increased slightly.
