For the first time in a long time, gas prices have increased both locally as well as across the western Pennsylvania region as a whole during the past week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, rose by four cents to $3.47 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole increased by three cents over the same period of time to reach at $3.40. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in New Castle at $3.11, while the most expensive is in Kittanning at $3.64.
The average national gas price increased by a penny over the past week to settle at $3.07. This is still a nickel less than a month ago and 34 cents less than one year ago. Demand for gas decreased slightly while the price of oil ticked up likely as a result of wintry weather which hampers refining operations and gas distribution.
