Gas prices have risen both locally as well as across western Pennsylvania as a whole this week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, increased by three cents to reach $3.96 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole jumped by a nickel over the same period of time to reach $3.89. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in New Castle at $3.73, while the most expensive is in Mercer and Warren at $4.00.
The average national gas price increased by five cents over the past week to reach $3.88. This is a penny more than a month ago and 21 cents more than one year ago. Although demand for gas decreased significantly, the price of oil surged as the market remains concerned that global oil supply will be tightened the rest of this year due to ongoing production cuts made by Saudi Arabia and OPEC members.
